My future

4:20 pm Serious Suet

I got back three of my midterms today and let’s just say I did..fairly ok. Not great but not bad either I guess. I got 89 for my game theory class, an A- for my history paper and 94 for my French and before you go wow isn’t that great! let me tell you that 89 is a B+ and 94 is an A-. To get an A, it’s 95 and above ok T______T Why is life so hard here haih. To think that back in those high school days, 75 is yay! cause it’s already an A and anything more than 90 is considered either impossible or wayyy impossible wtf.

Amidst all these sadness in life, I’m happy cause I’m going to Boston this weekend to attend the Malaysian forum! Do you wanna know a secret? The main reason why I’m so excited is cause I get to meet Malaysians and speak Msian accent and *hopefully* eat some free Msian food. oh! and also there’s some semi-formal thing at night so we get to dress up =DD Why am I like this T__T People attend the forum to discuss current issues of great importance to our Bolehland and all I care about is free food and dressing up T____T

The forum starts at 8am omg I swear I’ll fall asleep! And the worst thing is I can’t depend on Aud to wake me up cause she’ll definitely fall asleep before me even after drinking 10 cups of coffee wtf. Then you can see us both struggling to run out from the room cause got diarrhea from the coffee T__T (it happened before ok and it’ll happen again so if you see two girls squeezing past you please cover your nose HAHHAHA WTF NO LAH WE’RE NOT THAAAT DISGUSTING OK ha..ha..i was just joking *convincing smile wtf)

Other than that then I guess nothing new is happening in my life kua.. Come back here=no nice camwhore pictures. Oh I have something very crucial to discuss now. You see, I’m going back to Msia in the summer right (HALLELUJAH) and I’m in dire need of an internship of any kind. Nuffnang is welcoming me with open arms (i hope..) but I think I should try something else instead. I’m hoping to major in Econ so I need to look for an internship in like..an investment bank or something. So if you have advices on this matter, please tell me?

But right, I really cannot see myself working in an investment bank. The money will be soooo good but I don’t think I’ll be happy there..What I really want to do in life (eh big secret so listen up! wtf) is..I really want to be a kindergarten teacher. I want to teach kids and play with them everyday, and that’ll be a dream come true for me! As impatient as I can be, I surprisingly have a rather high level of tolerance with kids (as long as they are below 8 and don’t put me in awkward situations like ask me what is sex wtf)

But then again, I can’t possibly pay so much to study in the states and graduate with a degree in econ and work as a kindy teacher! Haihhhh I guess we can’t have everything in life. Happiness=no money or lots of $$$=unhappy Suet? But doesn’t lots of $$$=happy Suet as well? So does happiness without money trumps happiness that is bought with money?

0.o

So I don’t know..maybe I should try working in an NGO or something this summer to see if I like that kinda life first? I dunno..unicef? awam? ymca wtf?

Haih I started this post with a light heart but now my heart weighs a tonne thinking about all this. I can’t lie to myself when I know that the only probable reason why I’m majoring in Econ is cause I know it’ll guarantee me a somewhat secure and good future. I (still) don’t even know what I want to do with my life even after being here for a year leh how T____T Barry can you please study harder and earn millions so I can marry you and be a kindy teacher please please =( But then, I’ll disappoint mt holyoke lah they teach us how to be independent women and I’m here wishing to marry a rich man..

Haih haih sigh until shanshan can hear me from the toilet wtf. Whatever lah let me go eat and feed my miseries wtf.

I’m not in econ so I have no good suggestions on where you should do your internship. But doing your internship in a field related to your major would be a nice thing to put on your resume!

    I wish I could visit Boston… I’ve never been there before…

  4. twinkle :

Wahhh.. U want to be a kindy teacher eh? And yet U took Econs just for ’security’. A smart choice laaa….

Anyway… It is good to be independent but it will be much more fun if another half earns A LOT so we can do what we want.

But, that other half left you, still OK because you still can find job with ur econ degree. Right? HEhehehe…

:) I’ll be attending the forum as well. And, as an Econ major who has done internships with these i banks and will be going into the industry after graduation this may, the only nugget of advice I can give you is… follow your passions, there are many, many wonderful options out there that might necessarily come to your college and recruit heavily whilst dangling juicy carrots in front of you.

The best jobs out there need to be seeked, and will not throw money at your feet to get you to do it.

    :)

That said, if you’ll like to talk about this, tap on my shoulder and we’ll have a chat! you can email me if you want!

Haha, I cannot give advice on this. But here’s my opinion. People first start working because of their passion, but in the times that follows, only the money motivates them to continue.

I was in your exact shoes about 3 years ago! Don’t give up hope on being a kindy teacher! I am a commerce(accounts) graduate and absolutely HATED the accounting industry in Msia. So, I decided to pursue my passion which was in childhood education. I started off as running a learning center and moved on to the learning and development team. Also along the way I was offered an amazingly fantastic salary package (better than some corporate jobs) for assistant principal of a kindy. Usually the international kindy pay pretty well!

The wonderful thing about Msia is that you can go into childhood education with any degree! I am migrating to Australia and over there I can’t continue working in the education industry unless I go study further. So its back to accounts fo rme! =(

I believe if you are really really passionate about something, you can make it big. Furthermore, parents nowadays place alot of emphasis on good quality education for their children. Its a growing industry over here.

I guess you just have take things as it comes because most of the time, what we study in college right now will not be 100% the same as what we are going to work as in the future. like for me, I’m pursuing a degree in psychology but many of my classmates really have no idea of what to work as the next time… even though the cliches are child psychologist, clinical psychologist, counselor, human resource manager, kindergarten teacher, photographer and some even wrote volunteer (!?) all these i can see passion instead of what they were asked to do, so don’t worry so much :)you’ll be fine!

Congrats on the test hehe, better than my 82 econ test def T_T

ja ja have fun in Boston ^^

i agree with some of your readers comments. do what you have passion for. i have some friends who have their own kindies and they make pretty good money.
however, dont let short term monetary rewards hinder your goals. sometimes some not so rewarding jobs will pay off big time later.
as for your econ major. i dont think i can help you in msia as i dont know any people who works in that industry. i do have a lot friends here in us who work for all kinds of financial firms. so let me know if you need help in landing a job.
anyway, good luck in school. mine just started all over again.. sigh~

i used to want to be an investment banker, until i realized that the lifestyle is not a sacrifice i am willing to make for the money (100 hours work week are common yo!). btw ibank internships are usually for juniors, and maybe a few exceptional sophomores, as a firstie, better to try other sort of positions to gain experience first..

“So I don’t know..maybe I should try working in an NGO or something this summer to see if I like that kinda life first? I dunno..unicef? awam? ymca wtf?”

How dare you trivialise the plight of other people at the expense of your imperialist american capitalistic desires to try out a new life style, earning money on the side only to spend it on your polluting-thousand-mile journey back to the USA - the epitome of superficial overspending materialism? GOSH!

  21. Michael :

I dont find anything wrong with working in an investment bank? Investment bank pay loads though u have to prepare for getting older quickly and having ur face busted cos of the stress and the lack of sleep =.=…my cousin working in citibank london told me this lol. And the girls colleagues are…well….wtf

I’m gonna have an analyst intern in a investment consultation firm in summer…so i guess i’ll be experiencing it myself lol. Trust me…earning loads of money is fun. Though spending other people’s *hint hint* money is the best lol.

  25. Fuzzy! :

wei! cool lah doing an internship in investment banks!!! the best advice would be ur ex boss Stewie since he did not only one but 2 internship wtf. one with JP Morgan another with Deutsche Bank. why ur ex boss so keng one?!!!!?

  27. aud :

communist: god is ur father chairman mao or joseph stalin? wtf.

how is wanting to try working in an NGO trivialising the plight of others? and what is wrong with spending money to achieve a better education? if u are so worried about pollution then don’t take your head out of your ass because the gas you will release will pollute the earth even more.

  28. tzeching :

    Date: March 26, 2008 @ 9:02 pm

wtf why that i am a commie guy so annoying wan. eh idiot i swear 75 percent of people working in UN do not work there because ‘they want to help people so badly’ ok they do it because i dunno they just did. and all the people who work in charities bugging you to donate well they get paid for bugging people! some people do it to help people but i bet most of them started out like suet also, trying to see if they’d get a job they like. so erm yeah shut the fuck up and stop bullying my suet.

  29. Baz :

    Date: March 26, 2008 @ 11:17 pm

godless commie: relax, you sound like an angry hippie (and they most definitely are not cool). i think you misunderstood Suet. she has a genuine interest in helping others via NGOs, but she’s apprehensive about what the job and lifestyle entails for her personally. everyone who joins an NGO to “save the world” has initial doubts; Suet is only anticipating those doubts.

btw, i have some godless-commie gook friends too, maybe you might want to get together with them and sing ho chi minh’s praises? wtf.

  30. Fuzzy! :

    Date: March 26, 2008 @ 11:39 pm

GB, ho chi minh is overrated.

Oh, comrade godless commie, we’re having a barbecue to celebrate the Great Lenin’s life and later, you can participate in the reenactment of the assassination of the kulak Tsar Nicholas II. We’ll use real bullets and you can play the Tsarina. After all, товарищ, Ленин очищает землю от нечисти. Да здравствует Ленин Великий!
